Highlights from April 17


Buchanan's Bailey O'Dell and MaryBeth Williams were named to the all-tournament team at the Arroyo Grande Softball by the Beach Invitational. O'Dell went 8 of 14 with a two-run homer, two doubles and four RBIs and Williams went 7 of 13 with six runs and four RBIs. The Bears finished fourth.


T.J. McDonald went 5 for 5, scored three runs, drove in four and stole three bases as Edison crushed Clovis North 12-1 in the County/Metro Athletic Conference -- the second time the Tigers beat the 17-5 and D-III second-ranked team this week.

Luis Olivera, a junior center fielder, homered, tripled, scored three runs and drove in two as Firebaugh remained atop the West Sierra League with a 9-2 win at Mendota.

Josh Gilmore went 3 for 5 with five RBIs and two triples as Caruthers beat Riverdale 15-3.

Nos. 8-9 hitters Jacob Phillips and Yafett Thomas scored six times and Phillips also pitched six innings of three-hit relief as No. 10 Washington made a statement in a key North Sequoia League road game by winning 14-4 at Chowchilla.

Isaiah Yates went 3 for 3 with a double, two runs and a solo homer as McLane beat Madera South 7-2. Michael Mariscal went 5 for 5 with a double and a triple as Selma beat Central Valley Christian 14-3.
