More than 1,000 paid participants ran and walked at this year’s Step Up For Down Syndrome event on Saturday, Oct. 24. Local nonprofit Down Syndrome Association of Central California hosts the 5K run and 1-mile walk annually to raise money for its programs. The association serves families and individuals in all six Central Valley counties whose lives are touched by Down syndrome, offering parent support groups and various social events throughout the year. More than $65,000 was raised this year, said program director Jennifer Whiting. Donations are still being accepted at www.dsacc.org.
