Word on the Street: SleepFit mattress store opens in Clovis

Buying a new mattress doesn't have to be a confusing and daunting task.

Mattress Land is making it easier than ever for consumers to pick the best and most comfortable mattress with SleepFit, a new 5,000-square-foot concept store that opened on the northwest corner of Clovis and Herndon avenues in Clovis a little more than a month ago.

Customers are greeted with a comfortable sitting area and a learning wall that helps them determine where to start in their slumber search. Then, they can use the company's bedFIT selection system to analyze their body position for the perfect mattress and pillow -- or at least one that comes close to providing the best comfort.

"This enables us to identify the best sleeping surface for any body type," said James Smith, SleepFit president. "It can really help eliminate a bad decision" when it comes to buying a mattress.

The bedFIT test takes about four minutes. Then it spits out a recommended list of mattresses for customers. The store carries about 15 of the top national brands, including Sealy, TempurPedic, Simmons, Kingsdown and its own SleepFit brand.

Mattress Land has been in business since 1996. It has eight stores in the Valley, three on the Central Coast and another 11 in Nevada, Washington and Idaho.

Enzo excels

Enzo Olive Oil, one of the central San Joaquin Valley's newest premium olive oil producers, is receiving national attention.

The company's Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil -- Meyer Lemon Infused was named a finalist in the 2014 Good Food Awards.

The awards were created in 2009 to recognize companies that produce great-tasting, authentic and responsibly produced food.

This year, Good Food Awards will be given to winners in 10 categories: beer, charcuterie, cheese, chocolate, coffee, confections, pickles, preserves, spirits and its newest category, oil.

Awards will be given to producers from each of five regions of the U.S. And the winners will receive the Good Food Awards seal.

Enzo Olive Oil, which is produced in Madera, is competing against 15 other olive oil producers, a majority of which are from California.

Enzo Olive Oil was developed by Ricchiuti Family Farms, a four-generation family farming operation that includes P-R Farms and the retail specialty store, Bella Frutta in Clovis.

"It is an honor to be named a finalist for the 2014 Good Food Awards and to be recognized among some of the most innovative and environmentally responsible food producers in the country," said Vincent Ricchiuti, director of operations. "From the beginning, our family has taken great pride in crafting delicious olive oils that adhere to the highest standards, and this latest accolade is an acknowledgment of our efforts."
