Fresno County has expanded its Regional Enterprise Zone, an economic designation that enables businesses within the zone to receive tax credits for new hirees.
The latest enlargement of the zone includes areas in Clovis, Kingsburg and some unincorporated parts of Fresno County. The city of Kingsburg is the last of the cities along Highway 99 in southern Fresno County to be included in the enterprise zone.
Businesses in the zone can receive up to $37,440 in tax credits through the state's Housing and Community Development Department for each new employee hired. Over the past five years, the Fresno County Economic Development Corporation has issued 22,300 tax vouchers to participating businesses for new hires.

Al and Christy Kroell, owners of ChristyAl Plaques & Engraving in Squaw Valley, have been selected as one of 102 businesses nationwide to receive a $1,000 grant from Sam's Club.
"This is really going to help our business," said Al Kroell, a disabled veteran.
The award is part of a joint effort by Sam's Club and SCORE to assist small businesses with training and supplies. The retailer is committing $500,000 to the program that will also involve business workshops throughout the country.
