Business briefs: 59 Days of Code conference this week

The second annual 59 Days of Code: Web & Mobile Application Showcase and Conference wraps up today and Wednesday at the Clovis Veterans Memorial District building.

The event pits local software developers and others against each other to come up with web or mobile application in 59 days.

The free two-day conference kicks off at 7 p.m. today with a keynote speech by serial web entrepreneur Rob Walling. Workshops and presentations by competitors continue throughout Wednesday and are open to the public.

The event was created by the Central Valley Business Incubator and Fresno-based software development company GeekWise, with Amazon.com and Microsoft signing up as sponsors this year.

Aquarius Aquarium wins national award

The Small Business Commerce Association recognized Aquarius Aquarium, Inc., with the 2010 Best of Business Award in the aquariums category as part of its annual Best of Business awards program.

Aquarius Aquariums is a for-profit business that designs, installs and maintains aquariums in homes and offices. The company is the biggest sponsor of the Aquarius Aquariums Institute, which has been working to build an aquarium in Fresno.

The SBCA is an organization that offers guidance to small businesses and recognition to companies across the country it believes should serve as an example to other businesses.
