A 23-year-old Clovis man was arrested Monday afternoon on suspicion of evading police when he and two other people sped away in a pickup from what officers believed was a home burglary in progress, Clovis police said.
A man who lives at the home on the 1600 block of Buckingham Avenue later told police he knew the man and the two others and nothing was stolen.
However, when police responded to the neighbor's call about 12:30 p.m., the pickup's driver sped away. Two officers tried to block the pickup with their patrol cars, but the driver swerved around them.
The pickup's driver ran three red lights before turning into a cul-de-sac in the area of Fowler and Shaw avenues. The man then drove at an officer, who had to jump into his car for safety, police said.
