A man who passed out and drove his car into landscaping at the Sierra Vista Mall was pulled from the burning vehicle and arrested for driving under the influence Thursday night, Clovis police said.
The 36-year-old man apparently passed out while stopped at a traffic light at Clovis and Shaw avenues. His car drifted across the southbound lanes and then rapidly accelerated, hopped a median and then plunged into landscaping where the engine caught fire.
Bystanders rescued the uninjured man and arriving officers took him into custody, police said.
