Fresno State today will host the kickoff of a "smart planning" effort that will improve housing, regional transportation and commerce in 14 Valley cities.
Community leaders and planners and university officials will gather from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Smittcamp Alumni House to launch the Smart Valley Places initiative, a consortium of the cities, which include Fresno, Clovis, Hanford, Madera, Porterville, Tulare and Visalia.
A $4 million federal grant was awarded to the consortium to fund projects that promote smart growth.
