Local briefs: Visalia man gets nine years in sex assault

Juan Olivera, 23, of Visalia was sentenced Monday to nine years in state prison for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.

Last month, he pleaded guilty to forcible digital penetration and two counts of felony sexual battery.

Olivera knew the victim's family and sexually assaulted the victim several times over years, according to the Tulare County District Attorney's Office.

Tulare County Superior Court Judge Joseph Kalashian ordered Olivera to pay a $5,400 fine and register as a sex offender on release. He must serve 85% of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
