Fresno charities seek Thanksgiving food donations

Fresno charities serving Thanksgiving meals and giving out food baskets to thousands of people next week still need donations to complete their meals.

Poverello House, which will serve about 800 meals on Thanksgiving Day, needs coffee, sugar, cooking oil and canned foods. To donate, call (559) 498-6988.

The Fresno Rescue Mission will feed about 1,200 people Nov. 23 and on Thanksgiving. It needs coffee and pumpkin, apple and pecan pies. To donate, call (559) 268-0839.

Catholic Charities needs 400 turkeys to supply food boxes for the needy. To donate, call (559) 237-0851.

The Salvation Army will feed about 1,100 people at Thanksgiving dinners in Fresno, Clovis and Hanford and will distribute 850 food boxes in Tulare and Visalia. Needs vary at each location. To donate, call (559) 233-0139 in Fresno, (559) 582-4434 in Hanford, (559) 687-2520 in Tulare and (559) 733-2784 in Visalia.

Thanksgiving needs have been met at the Community Food Bank, which will distribute 22,000 Thanksgiving boxes to 160 charities from Fresno, Madera and Kings counties Monday. But the charity needs cash donations for the Christmas season. To donate call (559) 237-3663.
