A fake pipe bomb was discovered Saturday afternoon in Clovis, authorities said.
The device was placed in a trash can near a liquor store at Shaw and Villa avenues, Clovis police officer Mark Bradford said.
Someone who saw the device called police at 3:45 p.m., Bradford said.
The device was found to be composed of cardboard tubes with wires attached and a battery, Bradford said.
Authorities evacuated nearby buildings and closed off parts of Villa Avenue.
The Clovis Police Department Explosive Ordnance Disposal team removed the device from the trash can, placed charges on it and created a controlled explosion, Bradford said.
The explosion did not result in any damage to buildings or injury.
The tubes were hollow, he said.
Authorities are searching for the person who placed the device in the trash can.
