Through his lawyer, a Fresno police sergeant pleaded not guilty Wednesday to two misdemeanor charges of drunken driving stemming from his arrest in August.
Sgt. Ron Hughes waived his right to be present in Fresno County Superior Court. Instead, attorney E. Marshall Hodgkins entered the plea on Hughes' behalf.
Judge Kimberly Gaab then scheduled a Dec. 1 hearing on the charges.
Fresno police said Hughes was off duty when he was arrested about 1:30 a.m. Aug. 13 on Clovis Avenue near Belmont Avenue. An officer pulled Hughes over after seeing him driving erratically, police said. Toxicology reports showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.22. The legal limit is 0.08.
