Fresno officer faces drunken driving charge

Prosecutors on Wednesday charged a Fresno police sergeant with drunken driving.

Sgt. Ron Hughes was off duty when he was arrested about 1:30 a.m. Aug. 13 on Clovis Avenue near Belmont Avenue. Police said an officer pulled Hughes over after seeing him driving erratically. Toxicology reports showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.22. The legal limit is 0.08.

A criminal complaint filed in Fresno County Superior Court charges Hughes with two misdemeanors -- driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood-alcohol level greater than .15.

Hughes, who was on modified duty after his arrest, has since returned to patrol. He will be arraigned Nov. 3.
