A pipe-bomb scare shut down a stretch of Peach Avenue in Clovis for about two hours Friday, police said.
Two police bomb-squad members examined the 2-foot-long plastic pipe and determined it was not a bomb, police said. The pipe had a steel rod inside and a yellow nylon rope attached to one end and 6-inch phone cable to the other end.
A city maintenance worker found the pipe in bushes along Peach Avenue about 9:30 a.m. Friday. Peach Avenue was closed from Loyola to Shepherd avenues and reopened about 11:30 a.m.
