Clovis boy, 2, drowns in family pool

A 2-year-old boy drowned late Tuesday afternoon in a backyard swimming pool in Clovis, authorities said.

The boy was not breathing when police and firefighters arrived at the home on the 200 block of Dennis Drive shortly after 5:30 p.m., said Clovis police spokeswoman Janet Stoll-Lee.

He was taken to Clovis Community Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The boy was later identified by the Fresno County Coroner's Office as Gabriel Montoya. The Coroner's Office has not ruled on the cause of death.

The boy's mother told police that she thought he went outside through a screen door to be with his three older siblings, Stoll-Lee said. But his siblings had stayed inside. The boy's father found him face down in the above-ground pool.
