Achievements

Lesa Walzberg, human resources and risk manager with Technicon Engineering Services, earned certification as a professional in human resources. The certification was awarded by the HR Certification Institute.

Robert Hemsath, CEO of Security First Bank in Fresno, is the newest member of the Western Independent Bankers board of directors for 2010-11.

Carole R. Ford, MS, CFP, LPL Financial Registered Principal of Ford Financial Group in Fresno, was recognized by Barron's as the 75th top female financial adviser in the United States in the publication's Top 100 Women Financial Advisers ranking.

The Clovis Rodeo Association 2011 board of directors are: Ron Dunbar, president; Scott Saltzman, vice president; Susan Frantzich, secretary; and Jeff Witte, treasurer. Additional board members elected are: Lynn Armstrong, Vern Barkman, Joe Billalba, Lynn Button, Larry Cowger, Ken Elliott, Vince Genco, Greg Gillard, Joan Lassley, Chuck Rigsbee, Dan Rigsbee, Radar Ryan, Mike Spears and Mark Thompson.

Announcements

Timothy Rodriguez was named a vice president and manager of Union Bank N.A.'s Business Banking group. Rodriguez will manage the bank's small business banking services for Central California.

Dr. Suzanne A. Trott, a Beverly Hills-based board-certified plastic surgeon, is providing breast reconstruction services at Adventist Health/Hanford Community Medical Center.

Judy Fussel was named president/chief operating officer of Buckman-Mitchell Financial & Insurance Services. Fussel has been in the life and health insurance industry for 38 years.

Malcolm Dougherty was named interim chief deputy director at Caltrans. Dougherty was District 6 (Fresno) director for the past four years.

Raquel Rodriguez was named manager of Union Bank in Reedley. Rodriguez has nearly 15 years of experience in the banking industry and is responsible for supporting the bank's customer base and developing new relationships with consumers and small businesses.

Brent Swanson was named president/chief operating officer of Buckman-Mitchell Inc. insurance agency. Swanson was senior vice president for the firm in addition to his role as a commercial property and casualty insurance agent.

Tonisha Pacheco was loan officer of the month for May at US Mortgage Center.

Insurance Women of Fresno awarded scholarships during its annual luncheon to Ryanne Amomonpon, Allexandra Brandon, Jamie Rae Thomas, Morgan Thomas and Katherine Williams. One scholarship was donated by the CPCU Society of Fresno.

Awards

Darden Architects received the 2010 Small Business of the Year Award for the 29th Assembly District. The award is given to pay tribute to small businesses that are improving the economy and making a difference in their communities.

Diane Durando, BSN Credent School Nurse, was the recipient of the School Nurse of the Year award from the Central Section California School Nurses Organization. Durando is a school nurse at Buchanan High School and has 34 years experience as a registered nurse.

Grants

Bank of the Sierra awarded a $2,500 Sierra Grant to Break the Barriers Inc. Funds will be used for the Ability Awareness Outreach & Education program.

New Faces

Jonathan Ota joined the Fresno office of Central California Legal Services Inc. as the staff attorney working on housing cases.

Bryan Souza, broker associate e-Pro, joined the Team Souza real estate team at Re/Max Gold. Souza has been in real estate for six years and focuses on residential sales.

Promotions

Brittany King was promoted to logistics coordinator in the Fresno dry division of Johanson Transportation Service. King also is working on the carrier/sales side of operations, where she is responsible for carrier solicitation and carrier qualification and is being trained for carrier assignment.
