Fleeing driver caught in Clovis

A 38-year-old man was taken into custody in Clovis after his car was fired on by Fresno police late Thursday night, police said.

Fresno police spokesman Jeff Cardinale said officers tried to pull over the man for a traffic violation about 11 p.m. near First Street and Illinois Avenue. The man drove away; officers broke off pursuit and called in a helicopter to follow the car.

Officers caught up with the car in Tarpey Village, where the man rammed an officer's car. Officers fired several shots at the vehicle, which sped away before being stopped at Ashlan Avenue and Siverly Lane.

Clovis police are investigating the incident.
