Clovis to help businesses learn about ADA

Clovis city officials will present the first in a series of workshops about the Americans With Disabilities Act on Wednesday.

The workshop will provide business owners with information about ADA compliance and consequences of not meeting the law's regulations. The workshop will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the city's Police and Fire Headquarters, 1233 Fifth St.

Failing to meet ADA rules can be costly for businesses, with penalties of up to $4,000 per violation. In a recent wave of inspections, 44 Clovis businesses were cited.

The city's program will provide inspections for about 20 local businesses to inform owners of ways to make their buildings comply with ADA.

Matching loans of up to $10,000 also will be offered to businesses to assist in making ADA improvements.
