Local briefs: Fresno drunken driver gets 15 years to life

A Fresno man was sentenced Friday to 15 years to life in prison in connection with the drunken-driving death of his passenger.

A Fresno County Superior Court jury last month convicted Justino Vasquez of second-degree murder for the death of Eluterio Silva, 33.

Prosecutor Steve Wright said Vasquez had a blood-alcohol content of 0.19% when he crashed into another car at Fig and Central avenues south of Fresno on March 25, 2008. Silva, a passenger in Vasquez's car, was killed.

Vasquez has three prior drunken-driving convictions. Because of the convictions, he was told that he would face a murder charge if he drove intoxicated and killed someone, Wright said.
