Van crash injures 10 in Clovis

Nine children and a woman sustained minor injuries when a school van and a car collided in Clovis this afternoon.

A New Life Discovery School van was stopped in a southbound lane on the 1600 block of Minnewawa Avenue, preparing to make a left turn into the school parking lot when it was struck from behind by a GMC Sierra truck shortly before 3 p.m., said Janet Stoll-Lee, Clovis police spokeswoman.

The van was forced into the northbound lanes of Minnewawa and collided with an Oldsmobile sedan.

The children, ages 4 to 10, sustained cuts, bruises and scrapes, and a woman in the Oldsmobile sedan said she had neck pain, Stoll-Lee said. One child was taken to a hospital.

A woman who lives near the school and has a grandchild attending the school, ran to the school after the crash. When she complained of chest pains, she also was taken to a hospital, Stoll-Lee said.

The driver of the truck was cited for driving without insurance, Stoll-Lee said.
