An off-duty Visalia police officer arrested an alleged drunken driver at gunpoint near Shaw and DeWolf avenues Friday, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said.
Sgt. John Zanoni said the Visalia officer, who was not identified, was not in uniform when he saw a pickup with a car trailer traveling erratically near Quail Lakes on Shaw Avenue about 30 miles east of Clovis.
The officer, driving a pickup, pulled over the truck and trailer and got the driver out of the truck's cab. At one point the driver tried to grab the officer, Zanoni said.
According to the California Highway Patrol's Web site, the suspect was being held at gunpoint in a prone position at 4:41 p.m.
