Clovis will hold a Tree City USA event at 11 a.m. Saturday outside Clovis City Hall.
To become a Tree City, a community must hold its own Arbor Day each year with a tree planting ceremony. The city will commemorate its own Arbor Day each year on the second Saturday in March, said Eric Aller, Clovis parks manager.
Mayor Harry Armstrong will be speaking at the event where two trees will be planted.
To qualify as a Tree City USA community, the city must dedicate 2% of its parks budget to the upkeep of its trees. That maintenance can include clearing of limbs by utility companies, Aller said.
