Local briefs: Fresno Pacific men win

James Lewis had 22 points to lead four Fresno Pacific players in double figures in a 75-71 nonconference basketball victory against William Jessup in Rocklin.

The seventh-ranked Sunbirds (10-1) got 14 points from Craigh Ash, 12 from Todd Brown and 11 from Jesse Childs and shot 49% from the field.

Sunbirds women lose at Vegas hoops tournament

St. Ambrose made 15 3-pointers en route to beating Fresno Pacific 79-58 at the Las Vegas women's basketball tournament.

Jenny Clark had eight 3-pointers and 25 points to pace the Bees (12-1) of Davenport, Iowa. Jessica Torrecillas' 17 points led the Sunbirds, who had 30 turnovers

Fresno Pacific (1-7) concludes the tournament today vs. William Jewell College.

Rams fall short in Visalia

Bakersfield held off Fresno City College 76-69 to advance to the final of the Pepsi/Holiday Inn men's basketball tournament in Visalia.

Bakersfield will face Contra Costa for the championship at 4 p.m. today at College of the Sequoias. The Rams, who got 18 points from Brandon Johnson in the semifinals, play for third place at 2 p.m. against Hancock.

- Sequoias knocked out Porterville 81-72 and will meet Sacramento City for the consolation title at noon.

- Sacramento City, behind Ryan Mastella's 20 points, beat Reedley 76-58. Keshad Adeniyi scored 21 for the Tigers.
