Clovis police used a controlled demolition to disarm a pipe bomb found Sunday night near Sierra Vista Mall.
A spokesman said an off-duty officer saw the device about 7 p.m. in a field near Santa Ana Avenue and Sierra Vista Parkway. It was described as a 2-inch piece of PVC pipe about 4 inches long and capped at both ends.
Officers used a robot to examine the object and discovered the bomb had a fuse that had partially burned down before going out. About 9 p.m. , a small charge was attached to the device to destroy it.
An investigation is continuing.
