Man threatens to jump off Highway 99 overpass
Freeway traffic was slowed Monday night when a man threatened to jump off a highway overpass at Ashlan Avenue and Highway 99.
Fresno police Lt. Mike Doyle said the man was reported as hanging over the side of the overpass about 10:30 p.m. When officers arrived, he threatened to jump because of family problems.

Doyle said officers closed the northbound lanes of Highway 99, and negotiators tried to talk to the man. About 11:15 p.m., the man agreed to come down, and officials expected to reopen the highway about 11:30 p.m.
Man killed in Clovis shooting was Fresnan, 33
The Fresno County Coroner's Office on Monday identified Richard Cervantes, 33, of Fresno as the man who was shot and killed at Dewitt and Scott avenues Sunday in Clovis. Two Clovis men, Alejandro Paz, 22, and Vincent Ramirez, 19, are in Fresno County Jail in connection with the slaying.
The incident evolved from a dispute Saturday over gang turf around Melody Park near Shields and Fowler avenues in eastern Fresno, police said. Paz and Ramirez were identified by police as Bulldog gang members.
Clovis police said Cervantes and his nephew, a former Bulldog gang member, confronted Paz and Ramirez at Dewitt and Scott. After Cervantes and Paz engaged in a fistfight, someone in Paz's car fatally shot Cervantes and wounded his nephew, 20. Another bullet grazed the head of a 16-year-old girl sitting in the back seat of Cervantes' car.
2 arrested after drive-by
Two gang members, one armed with a .40-caliber Glock pistol equipped with a 32-round magazine, were arrested Sunday night after a drive-by shooting in southeast Fresno in which two people were wounded.
James Tep, 18, was booked on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest, Fresno police said. A 17-year-old boy was booked in connection with the handgun.
Police Sgt. Carl McKnight said the drive-by shooting took place on the 4300 block of East Hamilton Avenue just before 10 p.m.
About an hour later, Tep and the teenager were seen on the 470 block of East Clay Avenue and arrested after a chase. McKnight said investigators are trying to determine whether Tep and the juvenile are responsible for the shooting.
Police did not have information about the medical condition of the two wounded people.
3 stabbed in Visalia fight
Three Visalia men were stabbed during a fight at a party early Sunday, police reported Monday.
Visalia police responded to a report of a fight involving 10 to 15 people about 12:40 a.m. on the 1500 block of West Sierra Drive.
The men stabbed were identified as Earl Rhodes, 18, and Robert Huerta and Jared Sandoval, both 20, police said. They were treated at Kaweah Delta Hospital.
The attacker left the party before officers arrived.

3 arrested after report of Clovis garage theft
Clovis police officers Monday arrested three gang members suspected of stealing items out of a garage.
About 12:15 p.m., an Adler Avenue resident called police after seeing three people taking property out of her neighbor's open garage.
Officers responded and saw the three suspects in a car a few blocks away on Minnewawa Avenue. The driver of the car lost control while trying to swerve around parked cars and crashed into a pole. Two men got out and ran. The third suspect, an unidentified 18-year-old woman, stayed in the car.
The two men were caught and arrested after a brief search. Martin Lopez, 27, and Salvador Campos, 26, both of Fresno, are expected to be charged with burglary and parole violations.
One dead in car crash near Porterville
At least one person was killed in a single-car accident on Reservation Road just east of Road 296 near Porterville on Monday.
The California Highway Patrol said the accident was reported at 3:08 p.m. Details on the cause of the accident were not available, but officers confirmed that at least one person was killed, and a second was taken to a hospital for treatment. Alcohol was believed to have been a factor.
Arson suspected at Earlimart vacant house
Arson is suspected in a fire that damaged a vacant home in Earlimart early Sunday, the Tulare County Fire Department said.
Someone broke into the boarded-up home at 8246 Road 132 and set the fire using flammable liquids, the Fire Department said. About half of the home was damaged.
Post office open late
Last-minute income tax filers will be able to mail their returns Wednesday night at the main post office in Fresno, 1800 E St., until just before the midnight deadline.
An IRS spokesman said the demand for the late-night service has been declining, however, because of the availability of e-filing.
