Two California Highway Patrol officers helped a Reedley couple deliver their baby on the side of the road on Saturday.
The couple were on their way to Kaweah Delta Medical Center for the birth of their fourth child Saturday morning when their car malfunctioned, the CHP said. They pulled off on the shoulder of Road 80, south of Avenue 360, and called for medical assistance at 9:08 a.m.
Visalia-area CHP Officers Tom Nevarez and Chris Webber arrived on the scene within minutes and were waiting with the couple for emergency medical workers when the baby’s birth appeared imminent.
The two officers put the mother in the back seat of her car and helped deliver a healthy baby girl that was born at 9:25 a.m., the CHP said.
An emergency vehicle arrived shortly afterward and took the parents and their newborn daughter to the hospital. The CHP said the mother and child are doing fine. Their names were not released.
