Two teenage siblings who were not wearing life vests and did not know how to swim were pulled from Shaver Lake Sunday afternoon, and one was flown to a hospital, Lt. Frances Devins with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.
The 12-year-old girl went under water first, after trying to rescue her 14-year-old brother, who was having trouble swimming with a pool noodle. After a search by family members, she was located and brought out of the water and resuscitated, the Sheriff’s Office said.
When family members noticed the boy was missing after the search, they began to look for him, eventually locating him after 25 minutes about 25 feet from the shore. The girl was transported to Clovis Community Hospital by ambulance, where she was waiting Sunday night for her parents to arrive from Los Angeles before being discharged.
The boy was listed in critical but stable condition in the pediatric ICU at Valley Children’s Hospital, the Sheriff’s Office said.
No other information was immediately available.
