Highway 41 south of Coarsegold was closed in both directions Monday after a brush fire broke out along the side of the road.
Caltrans closed the highway about 1:15 p.m. near Road 207. Smoke from the fire was leading to zero visibility, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Nearby residents were told to be ready to evacuate, but Cal Fire crews and helicopters were able to contain the blaze, officials said. The highway has since been reopened to traffic.
