The National Day of Prayer was marked across the central San Joaquin Valley on Thursday with events where people gathered and offered prayers for America.
One of those gatherings was in downtown Fresno, where about 30 people gathered outside Fresno City Hall at 7 a.m. to begin a walk to various downtown government landmarks. At each stop, prayers were offered.
The stops included Fresno Police Department headquarters, where participants prayed for the welfare and safety of the men and women on the force. The group also prayed at the Fresno County Courthouse and the Fresno County Office of Education.
The nation’s theme for the 65th annual event is “Wake Up America” from Isaiah 58:1: “Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet. And declare to my people their transgression, and to the house of Jacob their sins.”
Prayer events were also planned in Clovis, Selma and Sanger.
