Recycling yard fire sends big smoke plume over Fresno

A fire broke out Wednesday morning, March 30, 2016, at a recycling yard on South Chestnut Avenue near Golden State Boulevard in southeast Fresno. The blaze was quickly brought under control, but not before it sent a large smoke plume over Fresno.

A fire Wednesday morning at a recycling yard on South Chestnut Avenue near Golden State Boulevard, southeast of Fresno, destroyed several cars and some debris before it was brought under control, a Fresno County Fire spokesman reported.

The blaze was at SA Recycling yard. Firefighters used the aerial truck’s big ladder to aim water at the flames.

Smoke from the blaze wafted over downtown Fresno.

No one was injured. The cause of the blaze and the amount of damage was being assessed.
