A bicyclist was killed by an apparent hit-and-run driver in central Fresno on Tuesday night, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash occurred about 8 p.m. at Palm Avenue and Saginaw Way, CHP Sgt. Ronald De Champlain said.

Dispatchers received a report of a white Lexus hitting the bicyclist, De Champlain said, with other callers reporting another vehicle may have also hit the bicyclist.

“We’re still trying to sort through the myriad of calls that came in to sort through whether there was another vehicle,” De Champlain said. The white Lexus, which was driven by a minor, left the scene after the collision, but detectives have made contact with the driver.

No alcohol or drugs appear to have been involved with the Lexus, De Champlain said. Detectives have not arrested the driver and do not currently intend to, he said.

The bicyclist killed appears to be a white or Hispanic male, De Champlain said.

“I cannot give you his age. There’s too much damage,” he said. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office will handle identification of the bicyclist.

The collision remains under investigation, and the CHP asks anyone with information to call 559-441-5441.
