A female died after jumping off an overpass of Highway 168 at Shields Avenue Tuesday morning, Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner spokesman Tony Botti reported.
The incident snarled the morning commute as the CHP shut down traffic, beginning about 6:30 a.m. The highway was reopened about an hour later.
CHP spokesman Axel Reyes said the Fresno Fire Department deployed an airbag to catch the jumper, but it apparently was not able to break her fall. She died after being taken to a hospital.
The victim’s age and identity were not immediately released.
