The skydiver who fell to his death Saturday after his parachute failed to open properly at the Pomegranate Festival in Madera has been identified by authorities as David Gilbert, 65, of Madera.
The fatal incident happened about 3 p.m. during a skydiving demonstration at the festival, held at Madera Municipal Airport. Gilbert is identified on LinkedIn as the CEO of Madera Parachute Center.
Madera police said Gilbert’s parachute became tangled as he tried to deploy it. He landed in a parking lot. An estimated 5,000 people attended the festival Saturday.
Madera police and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating Gilbert’s jump.
