High-speed drag racers hit Coalinga airstrip this weekend

The New Coalinga Municipal Airport northeast of the city is the site this weekend of a unique drag race.

California Airstrip Attack is scheduled Saturday and Sunday. The event is billed by promoters as a half-mile, side-by-side drag racing competition and speed trap event, open to any car or motorcycle. There are some safety regulations. Organizers say top-end speeds reach 200 mph.

Driver registration is closed, but the event is open to a limited number of spectators. Admission price is $20 for one day or $30 for both days.
