Hanford teen bicyclist struck by car, dies

A 16-year-old Hanford boy was killed Friday night when he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle at 14th Avenue and School Street, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The teen, who was not identified, was riding his bicycle and crossed 14th Avenue, traveling east, just north of School Street. He crossed the southbound lane and rode directly into the path of a car driven by F. Gonzalez-Hernandez, 25, of Laton, the CHP said.

The bicycle was propelled away and the boy was knocked to the ground and came to rest on the east shoulder of the road. Gonzalez-Hernandez stopped and checked on the boy and called 911. The boy was take to Adventist Medical Center in Hanford and then flown to Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno, where he died from his injuries, the CHP said.

The accident is under investigation, but alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the collision, the CHP said.
