A Fresno police K-9 officer and the driver of a Chevrolet sustained moderate injuries Tuesday morning when their vehicles collided on Fulton Street at the westbound Highway 180 onramp.

The collision occurred about 5:30 a.m. Police Lt. Joe Gomez said the officer, driving a department pickup truck, had just received a call about a pedestrian hit by a vehicle at Golden State Boulevard and Jensen Avenue.

Gomez said the officer turned on his emergency lights and siren and was southbound on Fulton Street, notifying dispatchers on his radio that he was en route when he entered the intersection. The woman, driving a Chevrolet sedan, was westbound and headed for the onramp with a green light when the vehicles collided.

The woman sustained a possible concussion and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center. The officer received moderate head injuries when he struck his head on the cage at the rear of the passenger compartment. The police dog was not injured.

The department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash. Gomez said the pedestrian struck in the Golden State Boulevard incident sustained moderate injuries.
