Girls, one armed with stun gun, get ready to fight at River Park
Is River Park becoming unsafe?
That’s the question many wondered on social media after a brawl broke out a couple of weekends ago in front of the Regal Edwards Theater at the popular northeast Fresno shopping center.
Two young men were beaten, including one who was knocked unconscious.
River Park Shopping Center management did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Fresno Police Department said as many as 30 people possibly took part in the brawl on May 4, which was caught on video and viewed more than 132,000 times on social media as of Saturday.
A group of young men punched and kicked a man who was on the ground, as shown in the video.
The group continued to repeatedly punch and kick him on the ground– often striking him right on his head.
The video also showed a River Park security guard right in the middle of the melee but unable to stop the beating.
Footage also showed another male suffered a similar beating and had fallen to the ground, too, with his face up against the cement.
“This is why I don’t go to River Park anymore,” one commenter posted on Twitter.
A man who watched the video also expressed concern about going to River Park, which for years has been viewed as one of the nicest parts of Fresno.
“I kinda wanna shop without the worry of being ganged up and assaulted,” the man wrote on Twitter.
The Fresno Police Department stated the latest brawl at River Park was started when two Hispanic males approached a large group of black male juveniles and young adults and appeared to provoke a fight.
The large group quickly retaliated with the flurry of blows.
One of the Hispanic males, a 29-year old, had to be taken to a hospital after he was knocked unconscious and received severe injuries to this face and head.
Fresno PD stated the victims were uncooperative with the investigation and the attackers all left the scene in several directions before police arrived.
No arrests have been made yet. The case remains under investigation.
It was the second large fight at River Park in the past 18 months.
Back in January 2018, several young females caused a ruckus near Edwards Theater at River Park. One woman was arrested for fighting in a public place after she sparked a Taser-like electroshock device and threatened to use it.
