A motorcycle driver suffered major injuries after crashing with a car April 20, 2019, on southbound Highway 99 in downtown Fresno, CA.

A motorcycle crashed into the back of a Mercedes on Saturday morning on southbound Highway 99 in downtown Fresno, sending the rider hurtling over the car.

The California Highway Patrol said it’s possible the Yamaha motorcyclist was speeding before hitting the Mercedes on the off-ramp to Fresno Street.

Spokesman Victor Taylor said the motorcyclist was taken to Community Regional Medical Center and was listed in moderate condition. The motorcyclist has body abrasions and a possible fractured foot from the accident.

The CHP reported that witnesses saw the motorcyclist fly over the Mercedes after the crash. Taylor said it’s possible the motorcycle was traveling at about 70 mph at the time of the crash.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are considered to be factors in the crash, Taylor said.

Taylor did not identify either the motorcyclist or the Mercedes driver.
