Driver overcorrects on rural road into path of oncoming big rig

A 26-year-old Ivanhoe man is dead after his SUV was crushed by a tanker in a crash Monday morning on a rural road in northern Tulare County, the California Highway Patrol reported.

CHP said the crash happened before 6 a.m. on Avenue 352 east of 4th Avenue, southwest of Traver.

According to the CHP, the driver of the 2016 Nissan SUV drifted onto the dirt shoulder and overcorrected, veering into the path of the eastbound big rig towing a tanker trailer. The vehicles collided left front to left front, with the Nissan coming to rest on its roof and the big rig knocking down a power pole.

The CHP said the driver of the Nissan was not wearing a seatbelt and that neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a contributing factor in the crash.
