Riverdale woman, 80, killed in crash at Highway 41

The California Highway Patrol Monday provided new details about a fatal collision Sunday on Highway 41 east of Riverdale.

About 12:47 p.m., Barbara Rogers, 80, was westbound on Laguna Avenue in a 2003 Toyota Sienna stopped at a stop sign at Highway 41. Steven Arthur Cole, 59, of Hayward was northbound on the highway approaching Laguna Avenue in a 2013 Toyota Venza.

The CHP said Rogers pulled into the path of the Venza, which slammed into Rogers’ driver-side door. The Sienna overturned but came to rest on its wheels.

Rogers was taken to Saint Agnes Medical Center, where she died. Cole sustained minor injuries and also went to Saint Agnes. A passenger in his car, Mary Labena Cole, 82, sustained major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.

The crash was one of two fatal accidents Sunday in southern Fresno County, according to the CHP. The other was reported at 11:44 a.m. at Nebraska and Academy avenues just east of Selma. The CHP said the two vehicles involved in the crash were both found in a nearby vineyard. One person was killed. More information was not available.
