Broken fire hydrant creates geyser in central Fresno (video)

A garbage truck knocked a fire hydrant off its base Monday morning in central Fresno, sending a small flood down drought-parched streets.

The Mid Valley Disposal truck was making a right turn out of an alley near Valeria Street and Belmont Avenue, just south of Highway 180, when it clipped the hydrant about 11 a.m., according to a Fresno police spokesman.

It took firefighters a few minutes to shut down the geyser. There was no immediate estimate of how much water was lost.
