Toddler killed in Porterville crash involving USPS delivery vehicle

An 18-month-old Porterville boy was killed Friday afternoon after he was struck by a United States Postal Service delivery vehicle.

Police said the fatal accident happened about 1:30 p.m. on the 400 block of North Delta Street. The boy was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The driver of the delivery vehicle was identified as an on-duty mail carrier. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the accident, and the USPS is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

“This is an extremely tragic event, not just for the families involved but for our entire community,” Porterville administrative Sgt. Rick Carrillo said.

No arrests have been made and the accident is being investigated by the Porterville Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team.
