A driver and six passengers, all from Madera, suffered major injuries when their Ford Expedition rolled in a crash on Highway 152, the California Highway Patrol reported Sunday.
The accident happened just after 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the eastbound lanes just southwest of Chowchilla.
According to the CHP, the 1997 Expedition was rear-ended by a 1990 Honda sedan driven by a 19-year-old San Jose man. That driver was overtaking the Expedition when the windshield-mounted GPS in his car fell. He reached to get the GPS, taking his eyes off the road, and didn’t look up until his car was crashing into the back of the Expedition, causing it to roll.
All seven in the Expedition were trapped. They were removed by emergency workers and all were taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. The Honda driver wasn’t hurt.
