Fresno County Supervisor Mendes hospitalized on Tuesday

Fresno County Supervisor Buddy Mendes, who was absent from Tuesday’s meeting, said he missed the meeting because he needed a surgical procedure that could not wait.

He was admitted to a local hospital Tuesday morning and underwent a surgical procedure, said a statement released by his staff on Wednesday. In a statement to his constituents, Mendes apologized for not attending Tuesday’s meeting.

Mendes, 58, is now home and recuperating. He will return to work soon, his staff said.

Mendes was elected in November to the District Four supervisorial seat previously held by Judy Case McNairy, who retired from the board in January.
