A bicyclist struck from behind by an inattentive motorist Thursday afternoon south of Laton is expected to recover from serious injuries, the Hanford Sentinel reported.
The Sentinel reported Tuesday that the cyclist is John Draxler, 54, a member of a longtime Hanford-area dairy farming family. Draxler was reported to be in serious but stable condition Tuesday at Community Regional Medical Center recovering from multiple broken bones.
Last week, the California Highway Patrol said Draxler was riding his bicycle west on Excelsior Avenue approaching Avenue 131/4 about 3:45 p.m.. The CHP said D. Monteiro, 28, of Riverdale was driving a 2000 Ford F350 behind Draxler.
The CHP said Monteiro took his eyes off the road, drifted to the right and struck the bicycle. Draxler, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown to the ground.
Monteiro was not cited, according to the CHP report.
