A 26-year-old man died after falling off a 300-foot cliff while camping with friends Wednesday night near Shaver Springs Road and Tollhouse Road in Fresno County, Lt. Shawn Erwin of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.
The man’s friends reported him missing shortly after 10 p.m. when he failed to return to their campsite after leaving to relieve himself, Erwin said. Before deputies could arrive, the group discovered that the man had plummeted off a 300-foot cliff to his death. He was identified Thursday as Zachary Penn.
Penn’s body was recovered with assistance from American Ambulance’s STAR rescue team Thursday morning. Authorities had no information about whether the man had been drinking alcohol, Erwin said.
