Lazarus, the Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s white-faced whistling duck, likes the Seattle Seahawks (of course?) over the New England Patriots in Sunday’s Super Bowl.
That was the call Friday after Lazarus’ first-ever Super Bowl prediction, arranged by zoo keepers.
It wasn’t exactly scientific. Keepers put blankets representing the Seahawks and the Patriots on the rainforest lawn and let Lazarus loose. Whichever blanket Lazarus went for, zookeepers said, signified Lazarus’ pick.
Round one went to the Seahawks. But some late-arriving television crews missed the show, and in a reenactment, Lazarus picked the Patriots. Uh-oh.
For the 2 out of 3 tie-breaker, Lazarus, with a little help from staff to better represent the duck’s original choice, decided on the Seahawks once again.
