The driver of a tractor-trailer was injured Tuesday when he collided into a barrier wall while driving south on Highway 99, north of Sierra Avenue in Kingsburg.
The 55-year-old man from Bloomington in Southern California crossed over into the construction zone on the right shoulder of southbound Highway 99 and continued through the construction zone before hitting the wall.
The left saddle tank exploded and the driver was thrown out of the right side of the truck because of the explosion.
Burning fuel from the truck traveled towards the Sierra Avenue offramp and burned 100 feet of guardrail.
There was no hazmat because all of the fuel was burned from the truck, which was carrying IV bags of saline, the CHP said.
The driver was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
It’s not known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.
