Fresno man, 85, dies in crash

An 85-year-old Fresno man died Sunday morning when his vehicle hit an oak tree east of Fresno, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The Fresno County Coroner's Office identified the dead man as Paul Bazar.

CHP officers found Bazar's car shortly after 7:12 a.m. on Belmont Avenue near Trimmer Springs Road.

Hit-run victim identified

The woman who died in a hit-and-run accident Saturday at Adams and Fruit avenues was identified Sunday as Marcella Vasquez Ramirez, 21, of Fresno, the Fresno County Coroner's Office reported.

Firebaugh man, 24, dies in collision on Hwy. 41

A 24-year-old Firebaugh man was killed shortly before 11:30 a.m. Sunday in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 41, south of Jackson Road in Mariposa County, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The Mariposa County Sheriff's Department identified the dead man as Jose Avinaramos.

The CHP said Avinaramos was driving a 1998 GMC Sonoma truck south on Highway 41 when he lost control and crossed the center line, hitting a 2006 Toyota head-on that was driven by Michael Fiechtner, 31, of Mariposa.

Avinaramos died at the scene. The CHP said his passenger, 16-year-old Jose Beccea, was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno with moderate injuries. Fiechtner suffered minor injuries; his passenger, Christina Fiechtner, 32, was taken to John C. Fremont Hospital in Mariposa with moderate injuries.

Impostors ask eateries for credit information

People impersonating law enforcement officials are calling restaurants asking for customer identification and credit card information, the Fresno County Sheriff's Department reported Sunday.

The Sheriff's Department said if deputies needed such information, they would contact the business in person and provide official identification.
