Another Fresno landmark succumbs to demolition as the historic Old Fresno Hofbrau is demolished on Thursday by Bowen Engineering and Environmental. Owner Bill Wagner closed the restaurant after learning it would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to bring it up to code after he was sued for failing to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Hofbrau was frequented by such luminaries as William Saroyan, San Francisco Chronicle columnist Herb Caen and San Francisco Examiner sportswriter Prescott Sullivan. The bricks will be recycled and sold by Bowen and the money dontated to charity.
